FCUoM 3 - 0 Bacup Borough

A FIRST-half blitz on the Bacup Borough goal failed to break the deadlock before3,268 fans, but an impressive second-half display earned United the points, making it 12 league wins out of 12.
The reds set off fast out of the blocks and nearly went ahead in the opening stages when striker Rory Patterson went one on one with Borough 'keeper Tommy Allen.
But the Irishmen was unable to add to his season's eight goal tally, as his shot went just the wrong side of the post.
Another six goalscoring opportunities followed before the break, involved Patterson and strike partner Stuart Rudd.
The clearest opportunity came when Dave Chadwick incredibly missed an open goal from five yards out, instead firing into the floored Allen.
And the visitors - who were 13th in the table before the game - were fortunate to go in level at half-time.
In fact, the yellow and blues were only able to mount a single meaningful attack during the entire game, testing reds stopper Sam Ashton from distance without much worry.
It was FC who turned up the heat after the break, attacking the Manchester Road End and looking increasingly dangerous with Josh Howard and Rhodri Giggs moving down the flanks.
Just three minutes after the break, Howard skipped down the right and found Rudd in the middle.
The former Skelmersdale man hit a shot, which was cruelly deflected into his own net by Bacup defender Simon Myrescough.
Despite a scrappy and indisciplined next 10 minutes, United were able to keep the lions' share of the possesion, with Patterson in particular looking dangerous.
Then, a cross on 59 minutes found the fast-moving Rudd, who was able to direct it superby into the net for 2-0.
Josh Howard continued to make a menace of himself as the game developed and Bacup's back line began to concede more corners.
On 69 minutes, a right-sided cross found the towering head of Liam Coyne, who nodded in for his second ever FC goal for 3-0.
The strike wrapped up an impressive day for United, who now face a trip a tricky trip to Salford City, who started Saturday in fourth place.
