Bacup 1 - 2 FCUoM

A goal each from strike partners Rory Patterson and Stuart Rudd was enough give United all three points in a 2-1 win at Bacup, putting them one point behind title hopefuls Salford City, who have a much inferior goal difference.
Patterson won United a a penalty midway through the first half, but Billy 'the Fish' Carrington kept Rudd out from the spot.
Bacup won their own penalty on the half-hour mark after referee Ian Rose spotted a push in the box - a decision later criticised by FC boss Karl Marginson.
But United bounced back with a spectacular Patterson finish and then went ahead just before the break thanks to fantastic teamwork between Jerome Wright and Rudd.
The match ended 2-1 before a crowd of 1,504, with the only downside of the game being a broken nose for Rob Nugent, which is set to keep him out for the next few weeks.

On a bumpy, sloping surface inside Bacup's compact West View ground, FC started the game having made two changes from the side that beat Colne 4-0 last Saturday.
Jerome Wright came in and Rhodri Giggs dropped to the bench, while Josh Howard also occupied the midfield in place of Gary Sampson.
It was the visitors who made the brighter start, though it was hard for either to team to get into any sort of passing rhythm due to the difficult surface.
Rob Nugent was the first to test Carrington as early as the third minute, though the Bacup number, one famed for his 'Safe Hands' award while playing for Nelson last December, saved easily.
The home side - playing in white shirts and black shorts - got their first opportunity two minutes later, hitting a free kick from 2o yards out way over Sam Ashton's goal.
The free-kick award was a sign of things to come.
With a fussy referee only too happy to stop the game and take his time restarting it, it set a slow pace for the rest of the afternoon.
But things perked up on 23 minutes, when Patterson was sent through in the right side of the box only to be hacked down for a penalty.
Originally, the referee waved play on and it was only due to the linesman's insistence that the spot-kick was awarded.
Rudd stepped up for the kick, but he could only knock a tame effort into the midrift of Carrington and Bacup were able to loft the ball clear.
Rudd almost got his first taste in front of goal on 27 minutes when some excellent midfield skill from Howard released the former Skelmersdale man, who was denied a shooting chance by the linesman's flag.
By now, Bacup were buoyed by their early fortune and began to make their own chances at the other end.
And on 30 minutes, they were given a glorious chance to take the lead when Nugent was adjudged to have pushed forward Ian Barker, awarded Bacup a penalty.
Stuart Shepherd stepped up and finished convincingly for 1-0.
United suffered a further blow on 34 minutes when Nugent was clattered and had to go off with a broken nose. He was replaced by Dave Brown.
But the reds' fortunes improved just a minute later when Bacup's defence suffered a momentarily lapse in concentration.
With his back to goal, Patterson controlled the ball effortlessly before turning and firing in a shot which sailed home passed Carrington for 1-1.
Dave Swarbrick broke free down the right with six minutes to go before the break, but his driven effort flew over the bar.
The sustained pressure put United's tails up, and with two minutes before half time, FC produced their best move of the half starting with Ashton, moving down the right wing and ending with a superb flick on from Patterson to Rudd, who could only head it narrowly wide.
Then, with the break in their sights, Bacup again let their guard slip.
Roscoe took a quick throw in to Wright, unmarked on the left wing, who had a simple task of squaring it to Rudd in the box. He finished calmly for 2-1.
In the second half, Bacup failed to create any real chances in front of goal, though Ashton to be alert until the final whistle despite United keeping the ball in the opposition half for long periods.
They couldn't, however, turn the possession in to a goal, despite several long-range efforts from Patterson and the savvy Steve Spencer.
He had his best attempt of the match on the 75 minutes when Liam Foster took a quick throw in which found Spencer on the left-hand corner of the area.
Spencer struck fiercely, but Carrington pulled off a fantastic save to keep his team in with a chance.
Marginson introduced Carden and Giggs into the game, withdrawing the impressive midfielders Howard and Swarbrick. Dave Brown was booked for dissent.
And that was about as exciting as the second half got, though as Bacup tired, Wright enjoyed acres of space on the left wing and the home defence were forced to haul him down on several occasions to stop him going through on goal.
United left Lancashire with all three points and next fave Atherton LR at Gigg Lane next Saturday.
